Il 25 marzo del 1972 veniva pubblicato 'Machine Head', sesto album in studio dei Deep Purple. Uscito per la Purple Records/Warner, il disco contiene autentici pezzi da 90 entrati poi di diritto nella storia del rock come "Smoke On The Water" e "Highway Star", che assieme ad altri quali "Lazy" e "Space Truckin'" finirino in un altro lavoro iconico della band, quel 'Made In Japan', tra gli album live più celebrati di sempre.
